Gold Country Roots

A town named for its crystal-clear springs

Diamond Springs began in 1848 as a stopping point for travelers heading to the gold fields at Coloma. Early miners named the settlement for its clear, sparkling springs, and the diggings here produced a 25-pound gold nugget, one of the largest ever found in El Dorado County. Its most thriving years came around 1851, when the town grew through mining, lumber, lime, and agriculture and even vied for the county seat.

Today the community is registered as California Historical Landmark #487, and its foothill setting still defines daily life: oak trees, quiet streets, and a five-minute drive into Placerville.
